Terms of Service
1. What LedgerLite is
LedgerLite is a demonstration double-entry ledger application built by Booker Ochieng Okumu ("I", "me") to learn and showcase how accounting and core-banking ledgers work. It is not a bank, a SACCO, a payment service or a financial product, and it is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or operated on behalf of any bank, SACCO, financial institution or employer.
2. Acceptance
By signing in or using the site you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use it. Browsing requires signing in so that I can apply rate limits and keep the demo stable.
3. Demo data only
- All customers, accounts, loans, balances and transactions shown are fictional sample data.
- Nothing here represents real money, real accounts, real loans or any real person.
- Do not enter real personal, financial, banking or confidential information anywhere in the application.
- The data may be reset, regenerated or deleted at any time and without notice. Do not rely on it being kept.
4. Accounts and roles
You sign in with Google or GitHub. Everyone who signs in can browse the demo as a read-only Visitor. Only people I have explicitly allow-listed as Owners can post, reverse or change anything. You must not attempt to gain Owner access, or to access any account, data or system you have not been given access to.
5. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- probe, scan or test the site for vulnerabilities, or attempt to bypass authentication or rate limits, without my prior written permission;
- run load tests, scrapers, or automated tools that put unreasonable load on the service;
- use the service for anything unlawful, or to harm, harass or deceive others;
- present LedgerLite output as genuine financial records, statements or advice.
If you find a security problem, I would appreciate you reporting it privately using the contact below.
6. Not financial, accounting or legal advice
LedgerLite and its documentation are for learning and demonstration. Nothing in it is financial, accounting, tax or legal advice, and it must not be used to keep real books or make real financial decisions.
7. Intellectual property
The source code is published in the project's public repository, and its use is governed by the licence stated there. Names of third-party products and services (such as Google, GitHub, Microsoft and Cloudflare) belong to their respective owners and are used only to describe how the project works.
8. Privacy
How sign-in data is handled is described in the Privacy Policy, which forms part of these terms.
9. Availability and changes
The service is provided free of charge, may be unavailable or change at any time, and may be suspended, restricted or shut down entirely without notice. I may block access for anyone who breaks these terms or threatens the service.
10. No warranty
LedgerLite is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including accuracy, reliability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement.
11. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, I am not liable for any loss or damage arising from your use of, or inability to use, the service. Because the service is free and uses only fictional data, you agree that you have no expectation of any compensation. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law.
12. Changes to these terms
I may update these terms from time to time. The "last updated" date above shows when. Continuing to use the service after a change means you accept the updated terms.
13. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of Kenya, and the courts of Kenya have jurisdiction over any dispute, unless the law where you live requires otherwise.
